Blackstone Farm-Bred Exacta in Malvern Rose S.

July 19, 2022

Roses for Debra bounded home an easy winner of her stakes debut at

Presque Isle Downs on July 18, capping a Blackstone Farm-bred exacta

in the $100,000 Malvern Rose Stakes.

The gray filly chased the pacesetters down the backstretch, waited for

racing room at the top of the lane, was tipped out a path and produced

a powerful stretch run to come home a much-the-best winner. Back in

second was You Look Cold, winner of the $100,000 Finest City Stakes

over this course last September.

Roses for Debra has now crossed the sire first in all of her starts.

She finished two lengths in front in her 5 1/2-furlong debut at this

oval May 23, but was disqualified for interference and placed second.

She officially graduated with a 5 3/4-length romp going six furlongs here June 9.

She is one of 28 winners and five blacktype runners so far this year bred by Blackstone Farm, Pennsylvania´s leading breeder the past three years. Among the others is The Critical Way, who captured his 6th blacktype event in the May 22 Get Serious Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Roses for Debra´s dam Essential Rose, is also the dam of Stakes winner Rose´s Vision and a $625,000 yearling by Justify. The latter, now named Rose´s Alibi, has been working in Saratoga for Todd Pletcher and MyRaceHorse.com. Essential Rose foaled an American Pharoah filly this spring and was bred back to Gun Runner.
